Do I Really Need a Geotechnical Report
and Engineered Foundation?
Of Course You Do! Here
is Why:
When you hear the statement, “You don’t need to collect
soil samples for your foundation because I have built 100’s
of structures in this area and this is how you do it”, you
get one of two things:
Over designed foundation, which results in thousands
of dollars into unnecessary foundation construction
Under designed foundation, which compromises
structural integrity and could render your investment worthless.
We All Have a Common Goal
- Construct a foundation that maintains it’s structural
integrity under the applied loads at a reasonable cost.
- Home or business owner peace of mind through
investment protection, prevention of future
repairs, and current construction cost savings
- Protection of the contractor & Engineer's
liability and reputation
- Protection of the mortgage company's investment
How We Achieve Our Common Goal
- By applying science and engineering to foundation design
as directed by the Post Tensioning Institute
- Collecting soil samples
- Classifying soil (USCS), recording layer depths, and
determining soil characteristics pertinent to foundation
design (LL, PL, PI, allowable bearing pressure, depth to
constant suction)
- Foundation Design
- Using the Information from the soil analysis (VolFlo)
to determine the PTI design values for edge lift and center
lift configurations (Ym=Diff. Soil Movement, Em = Edge
Moisture Distance)
- Performing a static load analysis based on the applied
loads for all edge lift and center lift configurations
Conclusions
Do not compromise the most important building block of your structure
Our common goal is a stable foundation at a reasonable cost.
We achieve our goal with geotechnical investigation and a professionally
engineered foundation
